Nemesis System — Official Announcement
In a world where every hunter may one day become the hunted, a new force now rises across the battlefield.
We are proud to officially introduce the exclusive Nemesis System, a new PvP feature designed to create fair, dynamic, and rewarding cross-race encounters across Caelum Nex. This system was built to make PvP feel more active, more competitive, and more meaningful — without sacrificing clarity, balance, or player control.
The Nemesis System is entirely player-centric. It is not forced on anyone. Those who wish to join the hunt may do so by enabling Nemesis tracking through their character options. Once active, your character becomes part of the matchmaking pool and may receive up to three active targets at a time.
But remember: the moment you choose to hunt, you may also be hunted.
How the Nemesis System Works
Nemesis matchmaking is based on a cross-race pairing structure only. This means players are matched exclusively against characters from different races or factions. Same-race assignments are never generated. A Slayer may be sent after a Vampire or an Ousters, a Vampire may hunt Slayers or Ousters, and so on — but never an ally of the same race.
Target assignments refresh periodically according to who is currently online, eligible, and actively participating in the system. This allows the Nemesis pool to remain alive and reactive, instead of feeling static or predictable.
To keep encounters competitive, the system uses a rating-based matchmaking logic related to Glicko-2, combined with additional contextual checks. In simple terms, this means the system does not pair players randomly. It evaluates factors related to combat results, relative strength, and matchmaking rating changes from wins and losses, while also considering practical balance elements such as participation and waiting time. Players who remain eligible for longer periods are gradually given higher priority, helping reduce excessive wait times while still aiming for fair matchups.
Built for Fairness, Variety, and Anti-Abuse
The Nemesis System was designed not only to create conflict, but to protect its integrity.
To avoid repetitive or exploitable pairings, the system applies cooldowns, diversity rules, and anti-abuse heuristics. These measures reduce the chance of the same two players being matched again and again, especially in ways that could be manipulated for farming or unfair gain.
Likewise, enabling or disabling Nemesis tracking is subject to a short cooldown. This prevents players from rapidly toggling the system to dodge danger, manipulate assignments, or disrupt the pairing flow for others.
The system also includes a disconnect grace behavior. Brief teleports, short disconnects, or momentary instability will not immediately destroy a pairing. This helps avoid unnecessary target churn and keeps the experience more stable for both sides.
For moderation and quality tuning, key pairing events are logged internally. These records help the team review reports, investigate abuse, and continue improving the feature over time — while still respecting player privacy. The Nemesis System does not expose private account data, and it never reveals exact coordinates through public notices.
What Players Will See In-Game
When logging into the game, players will notice a new Nemesis icon on the interface. Once Nemesis tracking is enabled, the system may assign up to three targets and display them in the Nemesis window.
Players will also receive helpful information across the UI, including updates through the Nemesis icon, the world map, and occasional race intelligence hints related to a target’s last known zone or recent activity. These hints are intentionally general. They are meant to guide the hunt without removing tension or turning the system into a simple coordinate tracker.
If a target draws close enough, the danger becomes immediate. Nearby Nemesis targets can be identified with a red silhouette, and the minimap may begin tracking their presence. In those moments, the hunt becomes personal, fast, and unforgiving.
Victory, Broadcasts, and Rewards
When a Nemesis hunt is successfully completed, the target disappears from the Nemesis UI and the system confirms the objective as finished. At the same time, a public broadcast announces that a Nemesis hunt has taken place, including who defeated whom and the zone where the encounter happened.
Victory in the Nemesis System is not only about prestige. It also grants tangible rewards.
Successful hunts currently award Gold, Character Fame, and an exclusive currency called Power Points. These rewards are influenced by the matchmaking values behind the encounter, helping ensure that more meaningful victories feel appropriately rewarding.
Power Points can be spent in the Power Spin, where players may test their luck for valuable prizes. At the moment, each spin costs 100 Power Points, and the reward pool may change across seasons or major updates. More uses for Power Points may also arrive in future expansions of the system.
Website Tracking, Ledger, and Ladder
The Nemesis experience does not end when the fight is over.
Every confirmed Nemesis kill is tracked on the website through a dedicated Nemesis Ledger, where players can review encounter details and see information related to the characters involved, including the Fame and Gold gained or lost during the hunt.
Alongside the ledger, the system also supports a competitive Nemesis Ladder, highlighting the top performers across weekly, monthly, and seasonal rankings. Those who rise above the rest will have the chance to earn exclusive rewards, adding long-term progression and prestige to the hunt.
A New Chapter of PvP
The purpose of the Nemesis System is simple: to create balanced, engaging, and meaningful cross-race PvP while minimizing frustration, repetition, and abuse.
It is a system made for players who want danger with purpose, rivalry with structure, and victory with consequence.
Because in Caelum Nex, every mark you follow may one day be following you.
